Gae Helton
Gae is inspired by the color and curiosities in nature. Painting the natural world allows her to share her love of the outdoors and the beauty within it. Her main mediums are acrylics, mural design and mosaics. Gae’s geometric and abstract work is influenced by Art Deco, Art Nouveau or Mid-Century Modern. I was inspired to learn mosaics as a large format medium for public works after supplying a substrate for a mosaic project. Combining stained glass cutting methods, and traditional mosaic techniques, Gae incorporates a variety of working methods into her mosaic art. The grouting is often used as a design element. Using a varied texture and size of pieces adds depth to the work.
