Art Has No Rules
About Taliaferro Sebastian
I am a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work primarily centers around acrylic painting, spray paint, and bleach as a signature medium. My practice explores portraiture, cultural identity, and emotional storytelling, often highlighting Black culture, community narratives, and the complexity of human experience. A large portion of my work involves creating powerful, expressive portraits—both on canvas and on unconventional surfaces such as clothing—using bleach to reveal imagery in a raw and impactful way. This technique has become a defining element of my artistic voice, allowing me to merge texture, contrast, and symbolism into each piece.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Art with a focus in Graphic Design from Central State University in 2010, and since then I have built a career as a nationally recognized artist and creative entrepreneur. I am the founder and owner of Art Has No Rules Studios and Gallery, a community-driven creative space that serves as both a gallery and a hub for artistic expression, education, and cultural events. Through this space, I curate exhibitions, host workshops, and provide opportunities for both emerging and established artists to connect with the community.
Throughout my career, I have curated over ten art exhibitions and have placed work in 41 states and five countries, with collectors that include celebrities and professional athletes. My work has also been recognized and exhibited in respected spaces, including participation in exhibitions connected to the Springfield Museum of Art. In addition to my studio practice, I am deeply committed to education and community engagement. I have served as an Artist-in-Residence through the Ohio Arts Council, where I work with young students to develop not only their artistic skills but also their confidence, creativity, and sense of identity.
My work is driven by a desire to create meaningful connections—between the viewer and the subject, between art and community, and between personal stories and collective experience. Whether through exhibitions, public programming, or classroom instruction, I aim to use art as a tool for empowerment, reflection, and lasting impact.
